Attachments-Can I Send Them To News Groups?

To explain a problem easily and quickly, I would like to send attachments to
the NG. Can I?

That is generally discouraged unless the newsgroup name includes
".binaries". I filter any message with an attachment, marking it as
killed.

Instead, post the file/picture/whatever to a FTP or web site, and post
the link.

Not without getting yelled at. ; ) But you *can* post screen shots and
other images to free services like http://imageshack.us and then include
the URLs to those images in your posts to the news group, and nobody
will fault you for that.

I can't figure out imageshack.
Do I upload Batch or Pictures for my attachments?
Then where do I include the newsgroup letter I've sent along with the
(images? Batch?)?
Also, do I, and where do I use my phoney email address, or don't I. If I
indicate "Private" does that mean that my ordinary email address will be as
protected as the phoney one?

Thanks, Rafael

Hi Rafael!

When you upload an image you'll be presented with a string of text that
looks something like:

Copy the URL in the first set of brackets above and paste in a message
to the group like this:

<http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture.jpg>

I added the two angle brackets < and > around the URL to help some
newsreaders understand that this is one URL in case the text wraps to a
second line.

When someone reads your post he can click the link above and view your
image. A picture truly can be worth a thousand words.

You want to use a phony E-mail address (or in my case just obfuscated)
when posting messages to newsgroups. Marking something "Private" does
nothing when posting. Newsgroups and websites are automatically scanned
by servers for E-mail addresses for sending spam.

Hope this helps!

Gosh, it's really not that hard:

1. Go to http://imageshack.us/.

(No need to sign up or register an account. Just go there.)

2. Where it says "upload:" click "image".

3. Click "Browse". Navigate to an image file on your system and select
it.

4. Click "host it!". The image will upload, then a new page will appear.

5. Find the text box labelled "Direct link to image" on the page - it's
near the bottom of the page.

6. Copy the URL next to "Direct link to image".

7. Paste that URL in a post here.

JR Thanks. I can make anything, ummm, difficult.
