attachments create COPY file in explorer

Outlook 2003 winXP pro SP2
When I select a graphic file to insert as an attachment to an e-mail a
duplicate file is created in the same explorer directory. How can I avoid
this.
For instance, if I select photo1.jpg and photo2.jpg for attachment,
duplicate files named COPYphoto1.jpg and COPYphoto2.jpg are created in that
directory.
