Attachments "greyed out" with IMAP account

Entourage 11.1 client on Mac OS 10.3.9 with an IMAP account on an
Exchange 2003 SBS server. Odd problem just started happening with
attachments where the attached files are listed with the proper name
and extension and application association as well as size, but appears
greyed out. I can save to disk and attempt to open. It will open the
correct associated application, but errors out imediately. I don't have
the exact error. .jpg files seem to be fine, but word, excel, Acrobat,
etc all error the same way. I have tried recreating the account to re
subscribe to the folders, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

If you select the message, can you choose 'receive entire message' from the
Message menu?

Thank you for reply. I have not tried that yet, but plan on testing
this within the next day. If this works, is there a way I can do this
for the entire inbox and sent items without having to do this for each
individual message?

Yes, you can turn on an option in the account settings to download complete
messages. Alternatively, you can use a mail rule to download complete
messages for those messages which meet some criteria you wish to impose.

Thanks Barry. I will try what you suggested. Have you seen or heard of
this behavior before? I should add that this problem surfaced after I
deleted the original IMAP account and recreated it so I could
essentially re-populate the database. This resoved an issue with not
being able to delete downloaded emails, but was not able to prevent
some of the duplicate emails from coming in - the original problem I
was troubleshooting. Thanks again for your assistance.

Ok, I was able to resolve this issue. First, I tried to receive the
entire message both through the message pull down menu and in the
attachment box where you can click on "download full message". That
worked and I was able to select all previous mail in the inbox and to
do the same. In order to make sure that it downloaded the full message
everytime mail is received, I unchecked the preference in account
options to download a portion of the message if it is over 20K.
Apparently this option was checked (by default?) in the IMAP account
settings. Thanks for your very helpful advice!

Glad you got it fixed :)
