Attachments saved where?

Attachments you receive, I think get saved somewhere. Where is that? And
does a typical rebuild (which I do monthly), get rid of them? Thanks!

Mine seem to be in Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Temp. There's
also a folder in Entourage Temp called Saved Attachments, but it's empty on
my machine.

I haven't had this a month, so I don't know.

I have not experience this in Entourage but I believe it was a great fix for
a similar problem in OE5 and definitely in Claris Emailer. So maybe it is
the same symptom.

When people used to report that the mail app would crash upon opening, we
found that an item was in that "temp incoming" folder, and as soon as we
removed it, everything was A-OK again.

That's where attachments you send and receive are stored so that you can see
them. That folder should be emptied each time you quit Entourage.

That's just a place you can choose to save attachments.

No, a Typical Rebuild does not delete attachments. You could select all
messages in a folder (Edit -> Select All) and then do Message -> Remove All
Attachments. You'd want to save attachments before doing so.

One way to keep your database slim and save attachments from incoming mail
automatically is to use Friendlier Claris It.

You could also create a rule to remove attachments from sent mail, like the
one here:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/rules.html#anchor-rule1>

By the way, it's been recommended that regular rebuilds be avoided unless
your database has increased to an unmanageable size and needs to be reduced
or if you begin to experience symptoms of database corruption.

Mickey:

Thanks, I though that Claris was a competing e mail client to Entourage, not
the case I guess.

Also, I was told by Microsoft tech guy that doing typical rebuild is good to
do every month. I've been doing that for a couple of years after I had big
meltdown with the program and it has been fine. Why do you not recommend it?

PS:
I just looked in my Temp Entourage folder and only saw five things there,
and I know I have many attachments in many sent mail.

The developers do not recommend it. You only need to rebuild if you are
having problems or need to reclaim disk space.

Anytime you manipulate data there is a chance of things going wrong. The
best thing you can do is to backup on a regular basis. I create a Task to
remind me.
