Attachments with long names are truncated

If I receive an e-mail with attachment in entourage x 10.1.4 with a
name like "H1988-00 CONSOLE1 FIRE AND GAS PANEL ESECUTIVO 3D.zip" and
copy it to the desktop the name becomes truncated to H1988-00
CONSOL…SECUTIVO 3D.zip. Why does this happen and how can we avoid this
truncation?

Thanks in advance

The Microsoft libraries with Office v.X have not been updated yet to
handle file names with more than 31 characters. This is the legacy of
coming from Mac OS 9. The only way around it is to place the files in a
StuffIt or Zip archive and attach that file.

Hopefully Office 2004 will remove this restriction.
