Hi everyone!

I've tried searching for an answer to what is probably something you guys
already have an answer to, but I am at a total lose with. I've checked
preferences, accounts settings, forums, etc...
Please excuse my ignorance.

How do I remove an attachment from an email without having to delete the
entire email?

When I drop the arrow on the left hand side of the email down to see the
attached file, the "Remove" button on the right hand side is grayed out?
I've tried using the delete key on the keyboard. "Remove" on the contextual
menu when I do a control + click on the file is also grayed out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
MM

Entourage 2004 (11.2.0). Mac G5/2.0 10.3.9.

P.S. This is with ALL attachments.

That's easily done: when the message is open in the preview pane (or in a
new window), expand the attachment section, the way you've done it already,
by clicking on the triangle. The Open, Save and Remove buttons are greyed
out, true, but that's because you haven't selected any attachments. Select
them, and you should be able to remove them. Alternatively, select the
message from the e-mail list, then go to Message>Remove All Attachments.

Hi Michel!
Thanks for the reply!

We're a bit confused because we are in fact highlighting the attachment in
the email attachment box, but the only button we cannot click on is the
"Remove" button. It's still grayed out.

We tried the "Remove All Attachments" option under the "Message" menu you
suggested and that seemed to work fine. We even got a little icon under the
message status column indicating a removed attachment. Cute!

Do you think we may have something enabled somewhere in Entourage 2004
(11.2.0) that may be causing Entourage to disable the attachment "Remove"
button?!

Thanks!

Hi Marc,

glad that I could help. As for the fact that the Remove button remains
greyed out, well I can't really tell you much about that; it works well
enough for me. Does this problem affect all your messages, or only messages
from a certain account/a particular kind of attachment etc.? Or are those
messages sent through a different e-mail program, from a different platform?

By the way, there is, at least not as far as I know, no way of changing
Entourage's behaviour to grey out the Remove button, especially since the
Remove All Attachments button is working just fine. So don't worry about
that!

Hi Michel!

That's funny that you should mention that!

If I view my Hotmail account and click on an email with an attachment, the
"Remove" button is available and I can remove the attachment. If I and when
I view my Exchange account, from the same client and computer, I can't
remove the attachment. I also tried this on another computer just to see and
the same thing happened.

Could this be some kind of permissions problem on the Exchange server side?

HUH?

Thanks!

Hi Marco,

that might be the case. I have no experience whatsoever with Exchange
servers, so I can't really tell you.

Dealing with Exchanges, I've had to request the whole attachment be
downloaded. Look to see if there is a line of text above the email saying
something like"get whole attachment". Just an idea.
