Hi all. A quick question. I let my brother use my computer (never again)
and after he left I tried to use it and I now cannot log into msn messenger
(it says I am behind a firewall) and I cannot receive attachments with my
email. (outlook) Can anyone help?
thanks

What O/S are you using? If Windows XP, right-click on My Network Places,
and choose Properties. Then right-click on your network connection and
choose Properties. Then click the Advanced tab and check if your firewall
is enabled.

By the way, if you have a broadband connection and _aren't_ using a
firewall, you're setting yourself up for trouble.

And not just broadband either - it's perfectly possible to get worms via
dial-up as well!

Yes, but it's less likely, in my opinion, because you're not connected as
long so your window of exposure is smaller. Still, why not be safe, as you
point out?

Can you please tell me how to do this with windows98?
thanks

Do what? Enable a firewall? W98 doesn't have one natively, you will need to
download one. ZoneAlarm is one of the more common ones.....

Since there is no built-in firewall in Windows 98, if your mail system is
reporting a message that you're behind a firewall, you should know if one's
installed. Do you see "Kerio", "Sygate", "Zone Alarm", or "Zone Labs"
mentioned in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs?

no, I don't see any of that.......and only msn messenger gives me that
firewall warning.........in outlook, I just don't receive any attachments at
all......that little paperclip thing in the top right corner is never there.
