Audio within PowerPoint

Good afternoon

I am wondering if anyone can provide some direction regarding audio within
PowerPoint. I know and have used WAV files within presentations in the past,
but am wondering if anyone has had any luck with compressed audio (MP3 or
???) within a presentation as it would significantly reduce the files size
in some cases.

As always, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sonia

I tried what you suggest and PowerPoint 2000 tells me that it cannot use an
MP3 file - be sure the file is WAV.

Any other suggestions or am I doing something wrong.

It sounds like you must be trying to apply a sound to a slide transition.
Yes indeed, those must be WAVs. However, try Insert > Movies and Sounds >
Sound from file and it's a different story.

Thanks Sonia - that was my mistake.

Another stupid question if I may. Is there anyway to insert a sound without
having the little speaker symbol on the slide.
