Authentication request upon opening PPT and XLS with Office 2003

Users already logged into a secure website (https) are being prompted to
re-authenticate upon opening PowerPoint or Excel files using Office 2003.

Any idea why and how to fix this?

That's normal. IE and Excel/Powerpoint are different applications, and
unless the file is cached (not opening directly) it will ask for a username.
