Auto-complete Inserts Bogus Info

When I begin to type an e-mail address, auto complete shows a list of
possible names, and the list narrows to one as I keep typing, or I
select a name from the list. So far, so good. But the list that it
offers frequently contains names and e-mail addresses that are not in
my Entourage Address Book -- though they are names and addresses that I
have sent mail to or received mail from. Where does Entourage store
these, and how can I get rid of them? The email address that I send to
most often offers an alternative of the same name with an older,
invalid address, and I have occasionally selected it by mistake and had
my mail delayed as it bounced back and I had to re-send to the correct
address.

TIA!

You don't mention which version of Entourage you run. If it's Entourage v.X,
it's quite simple: in the "Mail and News Preferences", see at the bottom of
the "Compose" pane.

If it's Entourage:2001, things are a bit more difficult. You'll have to add
the names to you address bokk, set their category to "Junk" and then trow
them away.

In Entourage X there is an option in the preferences to clear this address
Cache (Mail & News prefs; Compose tab). You can also (in the same place)
turn off the display of these addresses (but still keep the Œauto complete¹
of names in your address book).

In both Entourage v9 and in vX individual items can be removed by adding an
entry to the address book that EXACTLY matches the rogue entry in the
history list and then deleting it.

Alternatively, just wait a few days/weeks. The remembered addresses are
prioritised by age & frequency and the list is limited to a maximum of 200,
so eventually your mistakes will fall out at the bottom.

Two answers, both correct, and the issue is fixed. My thanks to both of
you for taking time to help me.
