auto format date

Heather Rees

I am exporting data into excel, which exports into a format similar to:
candy;sweet tooth;fat free;3-21
I then format my cells as text in order to do a find/replace and replace all
*; with nothing. (in order to get rid of everything before the 3-21)
My issue is that excel see's that 3-21 and automatically formats it into a
date. Is there a way to change this?

So you start with a text file, is that correct?

This solution requires that each line has the same number of fields (columns).

If the extension on the file is .txt, when you try to open it in Excel, you'll
see the Text File Wizard. That will allow you to specify that the file is
delimited, the delimiter is semicolon, and that you want to skip the 1st 3
columns (not import them at all) and that the 4th column is text.
