Autocorrect Functioning

I'm a poor typist. When I've typed them, contractions starting with "I"
usually include a quote instead of an apostrophe. (ex. I"ve).

Autocorrect won't fix these. I've tried typing and adding into the
autocorrect dictionary and I've tried using the Autocorrect button in the
spelling checker. (In Word, some will correct automatically [I"d doesn't].)

This is Entourage X version 10.1.4 used on a G5 running OS 10.2.8.

What do I need to do differently?

Nothing. Unfortunately the autocorrect feature works on full words, and the
" mark is taken as a word boundary, so it can't be included as part of a
word.
