thanks for this link - I have tried it in Excel2002 and no
problem it works.
I have tried the instructions to use it in Excel 2000 and
can't make it happen. I copied and pasted the code and
then protected the sheet without the filter on. I re-
opened the document - the autofilter did not turn on. I
then put the autofilter on before protecting the sheet.
The autofilter arrows appear but I can't select from
them. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Kate, works for me, did you change the sheet name to your sheet name, put
the code in the thisworkbook module, save the workbook, close it and reopen
it?

Finally got it working. First problem was my Security
level was set on high so macro was disabled. Changed
Tools, Macros Security to medium. Secondly, I hadn't put
the worksheet name so added that in. I then put the
Autofilter on and protected the sheet (it didn't work with
Autofilter off). Saved document and re-opened. Can now
use Autofilter. Thanks.
