Outlook 2003 does this aswell - but it doesn't lookup the addresses from the contacts folder - it looks through the recently used addresses I think.

Outlook 2003 will also automatically fill in the information for you.

If you switch to your contacts tab, and right click on 'Contacts' then left
click properties, you'll be able to click on the tab that says Outlook
Address Book. From there, put the check nex to 'Show this folder as an email
address book'.

That will set it so that it automatically fills in your contact information

Check out that you have enabled these: Tools - Options - E mail options-
Advanced E-mail options ->Automatic name checking and Suggest names while

Outlook simply doesn't work that way and cannot be made to do so. You have
two options in Outlook: autoresolution and autocompletion. The former is
controlled by the check box labeled "Automatic name checking" on
Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options in Outlook 2002/2003
and the latter by the box labeled "Suggest names while completing To, Cc,
and Bcc fields" on that same dialogue page.

Autoresolution works when you enter the first three characters of a name and
then either tab out of the recipient field, click the "Check Names" button,
or press CTRL-K. Outlook will present from your Contacts folder a list of
choices matching what you've entered. You then choose one of those.

Autocompletion remembers addresses you've resolved in prior messages,
whether or not they are from your Contacts. It doesn't connect to your
Contacts in any way. When you start typing an address, if any
previously-resolved address begins with what you type, Outlook will present
those choices to you and you can pick from among them. If your choices get
cleared out each time you exit Outlook, then there is a problem with your
mail profile and you'll have to create a new one. See this for instructions
on that:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/Faq/newprofile.htm . However, that's not all
that common.

Do any other settings you change/use stick around when you restart Outlook?
