autorecover

Hello,

I want to store the autorecover documents from all of my collegues (100) on
the network server. Does anyone knows
if it is possible to use a variable in the path like %username%.
Can it give a problem if you save all these autorecover documents in one
directory??

Thx in advance.

Yes, you can use a variable name, but only if you put it in the Registry key direct. I don't think it works through the UI - I can't do it in 2003 anyway

If you're not comfortable editing the registry then please heed all the usual advice/disclaimers before continuing

The key you want is (I think it's the same for earlier versions) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\*ver*\Word\Options\AUTOSAVE-PATH where *ver* is the version you're using. I'd suggest checking that by changing from the default AutoRecover location to something else to see where the key is created first

I seem to recall that for 97 it wasn't a REG_EXPAND_SZ type key, so you may need to change it to one of those if it isn't already

Hope this help

Julia
