Backing Up and Archiving IMAP Messages and Folders

I just switched from an Entourage POP to IMAP account. I think I
understand the differences regarding backups and archiving, but I'm not
sure. I would appreciate it if someone could confirm the following
statements before I make a mistake:

1) The Entourage database on my computer contains complete messages
from any folders that are under "Folders On My Computer," but doesn't
contain complete, permanent copies of IMAP messages. So if my IMAP host
lost everything somehow (unlikely, I know), I wouldn't be able to
restore any IMAP messages from the Entourage database on my hard drive,
correct?

2) I can copy any IMAP messages I want to save (in the Entourage
database on my hard drive) to a folder under "Folders On My Computer."
However, I don't see a copy command in the Entourage menus - only move
and duplicate - is there an expeditious way to copy many files from an
IMAP folder (or an entire IMAP folder) to a "Folders On My Computer"
folder"?

3) If I move a message from an IMAP folder to a "Folders On My
Computer" folder, or move an entire IMAP folder there, the IMAP server
will consider that message (or folder) deleted. This is what I would do
to archive messages off the IMAP server, if my account size got too
large for my hosting provider, for instance.

4) If I archive a bunch of folders (using the method in number 3 above)
onto my desktop machine, then copy the Entourage database from my
desktop to my laptop (after deleting the database on my laptop), the
IMAP host will repopulate (I know that is probably not the right word)
the "empty" folders on my laptop. The IMAP server won't get confused
that those folders are supposed to be empty and delete all my IMAP
messages, will it?

Do I have this right? I use this for my business, so I am reluctant to
experiment.

Thanks.

Deb,
entire IMAP folder) to a "Folders On My Computer" folder"?

I have just come across a script (freeware) but haven't actually used it yet
- sounds like it could do what you want.

The read me explains that you can copy rather than move by the following
procedure:When done, the script deletes the originals and notifies you. (If you want
to retrieve the originals, they are your IMAP Deleted Items folder, if you
have one, or marked for deletion if not, but will only be purged when you
quit Entourage or however you have set your IMAP account preferences.)Good luck.
