I am a newbie to Entourage -- I want to know if the files that I back
"backup.rge" also keep the attachments in tact as well. We are using
Entourage consolidate 3 differently web based services and need to
know the best way to back up and archive those e-mails -- Is the
".rge" file the best way? if not what is? I am backing up to an
external HD -- with a back up software.
Once mail is downloaded to Entourage "On my Computer" you have several
options to archive mail. Be sure your mail is secure and not corrupted
before you delete from the server. Check to be sure attachments were
downloaded. If you need to archive your attachments separately, there are
scripts that will remove the attachments and make a note in the message
where the attachment is stored. see: Friendlier Claris It! And Save
Attachments

1. Export as MBOX files. This option has the advantage in that these
messages can be imported into other email applications.
2. Create an Entourage archive (.rge) This one requires you to import the
entire file into Entourage to search for a particular message.
3. Make a copy of the Identity.
4. Export to another database like FileMaker. eMessage Archiver uses a
runtime version of FM that is free.
