Backspace does not delete highlighted material

Hi, my backspace button is not deleting highlighted material in WORD like it
used to. It still backspace deletes individual characters. Not sure how this
got changed, but it is annoying as I keep trying to use backspace out of
habit!
I am sure it is a simple fix. Can anyone out there give me a hand? Thanks.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing replaces
selection" box | OK.

backspacing "typing."
