Bad Entourage! No!

I have a couple of clients who have been having problems
w/ E. For example: open E. and previously functional E.
launches the set up assistant all acounts are gone.
Another problem was the view window which allows the user
to see the email in its entirety, below the window that
shows whats in the in box, is gone. and E. quits
unexpectedly (now we are to the point where its not so
unexpected). When you log into another user, from Mac os
user accounts, E works just fine. So obviosly somethings
bad in the user library ergo trash prefs, right. doesn't
fix it. Even tried reinstall still no good..... any body
got a clue?

Sounds like they have moved their Microsoft User Data folder. It's also
possible they have a corrupt database.

How to rebuild your database:

If you¹re in Entourage X, first go to
Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications. Quit Entourage, and then restart
Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up,
choose to do a Typical Rebuild.

=====
Select Switch Identity and see if your old identity is still listed. If it's
not there, then...

It's possible that Entourage is looking in the wrong location for your MUD
folder. You probably have more than one Documents folder.

Entourage
expects the folder to be in your Documents folder. For OS X users, that's
the Documents folder in your User's folder.

Open Entourage, create a new identity and name it something unique so you
can do a search on it and it will be the only thing that shows up.

Now do a
search in the Finder for this new identity. This will tell you where
Entourage is looking for Identities.

Fix if you have more than one
Microsoft User Data Folder...

Move the identity folder you want to use to the Office Identities folder
that Entourage is recognizing. Your identity is named "Main" by default. Be
sure to rename one so you do not overwrite.

Switch Identities to view your mail. If you have not used the new identity,
delete it. If you have used it and want to combine the new mail with your
original database, just drag each folder to the desktop. this creates an
MBOX file. Switch identities. Drag the MBOX files into the folder window of
Entourage.

Remember keep a backup of all data before deleting.
Another problem was the view window which allows the user
to see the email in its entirety, below the window that
shows whats in the in box, is gone. and E. quits

If it's preferences, they should trash these preferences:

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Entourage.plist

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Entourage Preferences

Also sounds like they should run Repair Permissions.

To use Repair Permissions:

Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.

Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions

Click on the icon for your boot volume.

Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD as updates have a newer version of Repair Permissions.

Run Repair Permissions from the volume being repaired.

Another problem was the view window which allows the user
to see the email in its entirety, below the window that
shows whats in the in box, is gone.

<snip>

For this problem, simply select "Preview Pane" from the "View" menu. There
is also a keyboard shortcut for this (apple - back-slash ......or maybe it's
forward-slash - I forget which is which).
