Basic Statistics - which function?

R

REM

Hi,
I have two data sets each measuring windspeed at different, nearby,
locations. Meaurements were taken at varying intervals during the
same period, (site 1 about every 2 mins, site 2 about every 8
minutes). What I need to do is assess whether the data from one site
is reasonably similar to the other. The help provided on the various
stats functions is not sufficient for me to be sure that I have
selected the correct one - so any hints will be welcome.
Thanks,
rod

Hi Rod,

Two basics possibilities :
1. Graph you data for visual comparison, and trend analysis

2. Make sure the Analysis toolpack add-in is checked, and go to Tools
Data Analysis for many readily available statistical tools

I'm sure some people with varying degrees of knowledge of statistics
might try to help you. I just want to add a note of caution. While
Excel provides many statistics functions, its documentation is not
intended to teach you statistics. The world is full of examples of
the misuse of statistics, on purpose or naively. GIGO. Before you
apply any statistical functions to your problem, I suggest that you
learn more about statistics and when to apply which functions.
Alternatively, get some help from someone who has more than a
rudimentary knowledge of statistics. "A word to the wise ...".

Use the Correlation tool in analysis toolpak.
