Basics: PST replacement & search

Hi All,
Really just after a couple of easy questions:
I'm confused by the no-pst option on 2008 Entourage. Does this mean Entourage is all 'inbox' with exchange? I have a very small limit with our email exchange but have GB of emails to transfer from Outlook 2002.
I assume there is a mac alternative to pst - just would like to confirm.

Secondly, what search criteria can you use in Entourage. Outlook 2002 has a pretty useless search functionality (I use Copernic desktop search, which is excellent) - how does the search in Entourage compare?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Not really. THere is no PST, but there is an "On My COmputer" section.
You can move your Exchange items to the On MY Computer folders to store
them locally and remove them from Exchange.

I'm not sure I understand?? You can search for mostly everything.
In ENtourage 2008, the Search is not Spotlight-based (the search engine
provided by MacOS X. Not only is it much paster, but you can combine
searches based on multiple criteria, etc.

Anything in paticular you are looking for ??

Hi Corentin,
Thanks for your reply!

Are emails in the 'on my computer' folder viewable, searchable, and actionable (i.e. can be replied to and forwarded on)? Is it just like using a pst file?

For search, really my preference is to search by keywords, 'sent to' name, 'sent from' name and email subject/title. Are these search options available and adjustable live?

Happy that it is fast and based on multiple criteria! That is the great weakness of spotlight.

Cheers, Chris

Entourage does not have PST files. To import .pst files see:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/pst.html>

You can use an AppleScript to move mail from your Exchange account to
folders "On My Computer".

AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 days from your Exchange account folders to
archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

Entourage 2008 uses Spotlight searches. You can create lots of different
criteria and can also save the search as a "saved search" under Mail Views.
Spotlight search is blazing fast.

Check out some of the default Mail views. This will allow you to create your
own using the criteria you mention above.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for that - sounds like 2008 has a good search - that is good news indeed.

I was wondering if you could answer my last outstanding question:
Are emails in the 'on my computer' folder viewable, searchable, and actionable (i.e. can be replied to and forwarded on)?

My exchange MB limit is tiny, I basically will be working out of the 'on my computer' folders. Do you see any roadblocks to this plan?

Cheers, Chris

Yes!

Nope. I like easy questions. :)
