Being Stupid - HELP!!!! Copying results of formula

J

Julia Easter

Hi - I think I might be being really stupid and have
missed the plot here BUT can anyone help......

I have created a formula result that I need to copy and
paste into a new spread sheet as data. As expected when I
copy the answer Excel copies the formula and then
displays "REF" cos it cant see the cells involved in the
formula as I need to delete them......

Have I gone barking mad or am I trying to achieve the
impossible?

Anyone know how I might either copy and paste the "result"
OR can I write the formula so that it says "do the job
then just show the answer without the formula"??

Confused Lady!

Look at copy paste value.

To do this - copy value (ctrl+c)
Then go to Edit - Paste Special - Paste Value.

Hi Julia

A couple of things. You could use Edit Paste special
Values to just copy the answer into your new spreadsheet.
Or you could just link the spreadsheets. Have both
spreadsheets open, and in the second just type "="
(without the quote marks) and click on the formula in the
first spreadsheet. This has the advantage that if the
first spreadsheet changes the second spreadsheet will
update automatically.

Dear Julia

There are two ways to answer your question:
1) Copy the cell containing the formula result, then Right-
mouse click on the cell where you want it pasted and
select paste special/values.

2) If you want the formula result from the first
spreadsheet (SS-A)to appear in your 2nd spreadsheet (SS-B)
and be updated when the results of the formula changes
open both spreadsheets, and click in the cell in SS-B
where you want the result to appear, then type = and then
click onto the cell in SS-A containing the formula and
then press return. The formula in SS-B should now look
something like =SS-A!A1

Hope this helps

Paul
