Best Method?

Okay.....*big sigh*.....I'm absolutely "brain fried" after reading and
reading on all sorts of options here for what I am attempting to do. Please!
Please! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here is basically what I am desiring to accomplish.....
I have an online form created for "transmittal" usage. In the past we have
always made a sepeate form for each type of transmittal, due to the
distribution list being different depending on type of transmittal being
issued. Anyway...... I was hoping to create ONE form.

Field1 = Type of transmittal selected (review, for file, etc.)
Now...when the user tabs to the "Distribution" field, I would like to have
the pre-defined list auto fill-in per result of Field1. Also allowing user
to add any other parties if need be.

Hooohummm...........what ever route should I go?

Thank you....thank you....thank you.....

"Brain Fried" *Ha Ha Ha*

Well... Where are these "fields" located? In a userForm? As Form fields?
Something else? Is this even Word?

You don't really give us enough solid context to voice an opinion.

Let's see.......I'm posting this on the WORD discussion group, so yes....this
is Word I am asking about.

And I did state that this is for an "on-line form", thus the "fields" I am
referring to are indeed "form fields".

What more need I explain???????

*continued confusion*

Biting the hand that you are asking to feed you isn't always the best
way to solicit help. I am sure that Cindy was trying to be helpful.

First an online form probably isn't the best way to handle this, but
since you are not open to probing quesitons to lead you to a bette way.
Here goes.

You could use a dropdown field (dropdown1) to identifiy the routing
type. Then use a text field (text1) to display the distribution. You
would then set a macro something like the following to run "on entry"
in the text1 field:

Sub RoutingEnty()
Select Case ActiveDocument.FormFields("DropDown1").Result
Case Is = "For information"
ActiveDocument.FormFields("Text1").Result = "Bill, Mary Sue, Homer"
Case Is = "For Action"
ActiveDocument.FormFields("Text1").Result = "Bob, John, Gomer"
Case Else
ActiveDocument.FormFields("Text1").Result = "Round File"
End Select
End Sub

Include as many Case Is statements as you have routing options.

I wasn't "biting" Greg. So, thanks for the dig *sarcastically of course*
I just wanted to make sure I had covered all of what she was actually asking
for, and I believed I had.

As for your suggestion, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi =?Utf-8?B?QW5nZWxU?=,
Let's see.......I'm posting this on the WORD discussion group, so yes....this
is Word I am asking about.
Well, we get all kinds of questions, here (Access, Excel, you name it), so I
just wanted to be sure. And an "online form" could even have something to do
with web pages (as I said, we get all kinds; people who see "General" and
just start typing).
And I did state that this is for an "on-line form", thus the "fields" I am
referring to are indeed "form fields".
Even narrowing it down to just word, not everyone means the same thing by an
"online form". Some mean a UserForm (in VBA), others mean ActiveX controls
from the Controls-Toolbox. And then there are form fields. That's why I was
asking for clarification.

I might tend to use an Exit macro on the Dropdown list, rather than an Enter
macro on the text field (as Greg suggests), purely because one can never know
whether the user might not click with the mouse, instead of tabbing...

Cindy,

Good point and that is what I would have done as well. However, before
we smoothed the waves with this dialog, I was apprehensive about
offerring anything the OP didn't specifically request ;-)
