Best way to backup/archive email??

What's the best way to archive or back up emails?
My email is on an imap server. The only thing I could figure out was to
select the folder and drag it to the desktop. But when I dragged it back in,
the messages were there but all the attachments were only partially saved.

What's the most reliable way to do this?

There are multiple ways, but you can start by moving/copying the e-mail
to a folder "On my computer".
You can also later choose to export the data from "On my computer" t an
Entourage archive. It might be easier to play around with that drag and
drop to a folder.

I asked this same question on another forum, and was told to create a new
identity, and move the 'archived' emails to this new identity. This way,
they are still available to you for searching, etc.

Dragging the folder to the Desktop to save it as an MBOX file should work.
If you did not get the attachments in their entirety, perhaps your messages
were only partially downloaded. You can uncheck the setting to "Partially
download messagesŠ" in Tools > Accounts under the "Options" tab of your IMAP
account.
