Best way to sync Calendar?

K

Kathy Cardoza

I use Entourage 2004 and want to know how best to sync my calendars between
my laptop and desktop computers. I made several changes to my desktop
computer and tried to do it by exporting to an archive. I then imported that
archive into the my laptop ----first exporting AND deleting my (older)
calendar data from the laptop in order to avoid duplication. Everything
seemed to import OK, but ..........the categories I had assigned to events
on my desktop calendar do not show up. The categories themselves are there,
but I will have to go into each event and assign it a category. Is there a
better way to do this?

Thank you!
Kathy

You could use my Export-Import Entourage X scripts (they work also in 2004),
from

MacScripter.net <http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>

They maintain categories. If you're planning to do this regularly, also read
the "Synchronizing.rtf" file in the scripts folder: it's not quite as
complicated as it sounds.

Do these work with machines running Windows as well? I need to synchronize
between the Apple and Windows machines running Outlook.

There are converter scripts for transferring Entourage calendar to Outlook
in the package, yes. And details in that same "Synchronizing.rtf" file as
to how to do regular syncs. In some ways it's easier using Outlook at the
other end. But you still wouldn't want to do this more than once a week or
so.

If you have so many machines running Outlook Windows, do you not have
Exchange server? Entourage 2004 is an Exchange client too. All this would be
much, much easier just using Exchange, with delegation if needed: you
shouldn't need the scripts.

I use Exchange, Outlook, and Entourage 04. I'm curious Paul: what would
using delegation buy me? For example, the main thing that doesn't sync
between OL and Ent seems to be tasks. Would delegate access get me a
workaround for that?
