I've tried every available knowledgebase article, but cannot find out why my
movie that plays great in Windows Media Player only shows black screen when I
play the PPT, but the audio track comes through great.

Jack,

In this case I would say it is using a codec that is not available to the
MCI player (used in PowerPoint) or that it isn't compatible with the player.
Options to resolve it.

1. Use a tool like GSpot (Google search if you don't have it) to determine
the files codec, locate the codec off the web, download and install it on
your machine. The draw back here is that it will be specific to your
machine and may or may not play correctly on other machines. (Depends on if
they have the same codec.)

2. Re-encode (convert) to a more standard codec and then insert it.

3. Use PFCMedia to do all the above automatically. (You can get a free
trial version from www.pfcmedia.com)
