Block newsgroup attachments in Entourage 2001

Hi,

I use Entourage 2001 as an offline newsreader, so have NG messages set up to
download. Is there a way to tell Entourage not to download any message over
a certain size? This would really be handy right now, what with the Swen
virus. If an FAQ exists, I couldn't find it, apologies.

By the way, I am only seeing these large "security patch" attachments on the
public MS mac groups, not some of the other Word ones, which seems
curious....

And in a related topic, is it worth sending feedback about the crying need
for the ability to delete certain downloaded NG messages, or would the code
just be too complex? Or are either of these features already available in
Ent X?

Thanks,
Dayo

MS is now scanning all it's newsgroups for this virus and is blocking it, so
the problem should diminish.

However, I do have a rule set up (under the news tab) that checks for
attachments whose name contains .exe, .scr, .pif, .ini and tells entourage
to 'not display'. The 'stop applying rules' is also set. This rule goes
above my 'download complete messages rule.

Sorry!!

Scrub that, that's a mail rule.

My news rule just downloads messages that are less than 50k - this excludes
virtually all attachments

You could set up a rule to 'not display', selecting by subject or run it
manually on selected messages if you wanted to

Thanks very much, I've added the News rule. Forgot there was a "size"
criterion in there. I already had the "hide" rule set up, but manually
applying it is annoying (oh, for a Redo command!)
