Books and video/computer training

Anyone got any recommendations for a good Project Standard 2003 book or
video/computer training modules? I know my way around project a little to
put together plans but always struggle with the different concepts of work,
duration, levelling, resources, %time etc. etc.

I guess I'm looking for a book that equally covers the concepts of projects
as well as the nitty gritty of actually doing it. A book that simply say "To
assign a resource, do XYZ" without explaining what that actually means (i.e.
a resource) won't be much use. I'm pretty good at getting to gripes with how
to do something in any program once I know what I want do.

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,

I'm sure you'll get several recommendations, but I'll chime in. For
written material, I have always used the "Using Project ..." books
published by Que.

For a very good FREE series of tutorials, see Mike Glen's (Project MVP)
articles on MS Project at:

http://project.mvps.org/mike's_tutorials.htm

I also recommend taking a two-day hands on class in MS Project, if you
can. A good Project instructor can help you through the less obvious
parts of Project (such as work, duration, units relationship; leveling
and so on).

Of course, this newsgroup is also a terrific resource and should not be
overlooked :)

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I can appreciate this - and it's something I'm going to look into.

A book I've used in my classes that is quite good, though not perfect, is
"Microsoft Project 2003 Step-by-Step" from Microsoft Press.
