Broadcast e-mails

I do a little broadcast e-mailing for some friends. Each address book is kept at 20 or less addresses to keep these messages from appearing to be junk e-mails. Everytime I send these out I get numerous messages from some wierd addresses indicating the message didn't go through. Is this a result of some kind of a spam filter or is there something else more mysterious going on?
