Broken sound from mp3s in ppt

I have a very large Powerpoint which I created on a laptop running Windows
and Powerpoint XP. It includes lots of linked sounds, as mp3 files. When I
transferred this to a different laptop (also Win and Ppt XP), most sound
files were fine, but a few of them, when played, just give a strange, jumpy
noise, and cause Powerpoint to end itself (encountered an unexpected error
etc.) if the playback is not stopped quickly. On closer examination, I have
found that the problem mp3s are those that are less than 128kbps quality.
They play fine on both laptops in Media Player etc. - it seems it is only on
Ppt that they are a problem.

PowerPoint 2002, and all earlier PowerPoint versions use Media Player (not
Windows Media Player) as the media interface. I'm assuming you meant Media
Player and not Windows Media Player in your question?

Since you mention that this is a very large PowerPoint presentation, it
could also be that the other laptop has problems with system resources?
Retain a few slides that include the problem MP3s and delete the other
slides - save it to a new presentation file (PPT) and play it on the
laptop - do you still get problems?

Do get back and let us know.
