Bullet Styles and page numbering

1. Is there any way of inserting page numbers for a set of pages, bu
not all of them?

2. I really liked the auto bullet and numbering feature in word 97.

However in word 2002 the following problems occur.

It automatically indents the bullet (which I don't want).
Therefore I altered the indentation for all the numbering and bullets.

This solved the problem for bullets and numbers entered manuall
but...

The autocorrect version create their own style with the indentation.
So I tried to create my own style with the same name (after removein
the original) but it would not let me create a new style with tha
name. It also appears to ignore most styles created.

So...
Is it possible to alter the autocorrect bullet and line styles t
remove the indentation and hide the stupid AutoCorrect Options Button
or do I relocate back to word 97

Yes. For different first page (e.g no number on the cover) use 'Different
first page. For different numbering in different parts of the document,
separate using section breaks. In Header/Footer view, unset 'Same as
previous'.

Then, either way, insert page numbers in the headers and footers of your
choice (use header and footer view toolbar, not Insert > Page numbers).

You must be one of the few said:

The AutoFormat As You Type option does not create a real style, but I
suspect you are being tricked into thinking it does by the Styles and
Formatting Pane when you have the Tools > Options > Edit setting to 'Keep
track of formatting' on. This shows a psuedo list style 'Bulleted' to mean
(I think) that it has the default bullets applied.

I don't believe there is any way of getting control over the automatically
applied numbering and bullets - even less than with the toolbar buttons. The
additional indent appears to be applied over the top of the indent that
comes from the default numbering scheme used - the reverse of the usual
problems - and it seems extremely unpredictable.

My only advice would be 'don't start from here' - use styles to apply
bullets and numbering. You could possibly use the tracked formatting in the
Styles and Formatting Pane to help you convert from the automatically
created items to true styles, though you would still need to deal with
restarting numbering.
