I'm hoping we can all learn a little about Business Contact Manager...
After some initial difficulties that were resolved by 1.5 hours with
Microsoft and some great ideas from Patricia Cardoza's new book, I've got
Business Contact Manager running smoothly. That's a good thing because I
provide support and training in Outlook to clients and want to be able to
recommend this new add-on.
But is it ready to recommend? Here are two things that seriously bother
me: my contacts take so much longer to load and sort. Searching from the
"Find a Contact" box formerly took about a second and now it takes 15 to 30.
Sorting or changing the view in my Business Contacts takes a similar amount
of time. And even if I've found the contact I'd like to open and double
click on it directly it still takes 15+ seconds. This is atrocious.
Another horror is how much RAM Outlook and SQL Server (sqlservr.exe) now
take up. Outlook seems to be larger, ranging roughly 10-20mb more (but this
one I'm not sure about). For sure though, SQLSERVR uses 35-60mb no matter
what I do (at least Outlook cleans itself up when it's minimized).
I have a 1.8ghz 512mb RAM PC running XP Pro and Office 2003 Pro and no
matter what I run or don't the above seems true. Have others had similar
experiences? Have others tried to search through their emails to build
histories for their contacts as I have, which appears to have been a cause
to my situation. I have 372 Business Contacts and just 1 business acccount,
in addition to another 346 normal Contacts.
Any thoughts? Workarounds? Advice? Shared experiences? Thank you in
advance!
