How do I set up Entorage to Automatically Accept invitations and then
Delete them?
Running
OS X v10.3
Entourage X 10.1.4 on an Exchange server
This worked fine with Outlook 2001, but it doesn't work now.
It depends on where the invitations are coming from. If the invitation was
sent by Entourage itself, or any other email client that uses correct .ics
internet protocols, it will all just work. If the invitations are being sent
from Outlook, which doesn't, then it won't. An invitation sent from Outlook
will usually appear with a .vcs attachment, I think. If you drag this
attachment to your desktop, then change the extension to .ics, just
double-click it if it has an Entourage icon, and it will be added to your
calendar, with options to reply to the invitation, as long as you have left
the preference in General Preferences/Calendar/ to "accept invitations
tentatively". If the icon is Mail.app's then click once on it, command-I (or
right-click and choose Get Info), select Opens With--> Microsoft Entourage,
then click Change All button, You'll never have to do that again - .ics
files will now always open into Entourage.
Presumably, the Mac Business Unit of MS will be trying to get Outlook
(Windows) to change their invitation to standard internet protocols. But
that's like getting the tail to wag the dog. If there are enough other email
clients out there which have the same problem, there will be a better
chance. Or maybe now that Entourage is an Exchange client, the Entourage
developers can figure out some way to convert invitations received from
Outlook in a later Entourage release. Ask for that via Help/Send Feedback.
