Calculate row based on colour

Is it possible to calculate cells in a row based on their
colour?

I have a row of figures that are colour coded and want to
add up all the red cells for example.

Any ideas? I've tried SUMIF but can't seem to get the
criteria right.

SUMIF works by comparing cell contents, not by looking at the cell format. How
did you apply the color to the existing cells? If it's with conditional
formatting, you would use the same condition in your SUMIF formula. If it was
done manually, look at www.cpearson.com. I think Chip has some information on
this topic.
