I would like to write a script that will display the size of the
entourage database. We have enforced mailbox limits on our Exchange
server (2000). What users are now doing is moving messages to "Folders
on my Computer".
While this might keep the size of the Exchange mailbox down, the
Enourage database is steadily growing.
I would like to display a summarised list of the size and number of
messages in each of the "Folders on my Computer".
Any assistance would be appreciated.
On Scriptbuilders:
Show Message Sizes 1.0

"Show Message Sizes" works on a set of selected messages and can either show
the total size in a display dialog, or a list showing each message size and
the total.
Are you familiar with the script: "AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My
Computer""
Move all e-mail older than 60 days from your Exchange account folders to
archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

Exchange is not my area of expertise, so I'm not sure how this applies to an
exchange database. This might explain why the database seems to be growing.
Background on deleting messages in Entourage:
Like many file systems & databases, deleting a message in Entourage only
deletes the index entry, and the actual disk space occupied by the message
is left intact as a 'hole' in the database, and will remain like that until
the space is re-used by fresh incoming content.
There is no way to securely overwrite these holes, but you can use the
'compact' function of the database utility to create a new copy of the
database without any holes. Then, of course, the original database disk
sectors would have to be securely overwritten.
Another options for keeping your database lean is to delete incoming and out
going attachments.
See these scripts:

They will save, remove and link the saved files in the message.
Use an Outgoing Rule to remove attachments that are sent. Of course with
business, it's important to keep the original that is on your HD.
