Calendar - 2001 to X

I'm trying to get my old calendar from my old computer in Entourage 2001 OS9
onto my new computer in Entourage x OSX. I can move the inbox by dragging
onto the desktop and copying it across (I think!) but how do I get the
Calendar across?
Any help appreciated

You should be able to to use File/Import/ from a Program/Entourage 2001/.
Check every item, or whichever you want (Calendar, Email, Contacts, etc.) in
the list that comes up.

Thanks, but I tried that. I'm using a new powerbook with a clean Entourage X
and I've got to get the right file(s) across from my old powerbook - copy on
a CD or email it to myself. I tried copying the Database file over from the
old computer but the Import command still says that "a necessary file
'Microsoft Entourage 2001' was not found." I can't even find a file called
'Microsoft Entourage 2001'on the old computer ..... The one I'm using to
send this posting! :)

I guess I could re-write my calendar from today but it's handy to have all
the history

The import needs to access Office 2001. You can try just inserting the CD,
but you may need to install it.

Hmmmm ... I've copied over the Office 2001 program to the new computer but -
same message. Do I need to install 2001 on the new computer and, if so, what
data file do I need to have on the new computer and do they all need to go
in the same folder??

.....I keep telling people that Mac's are easy ;-)

It should be enough just to put the 2001 CD in the drive. See this FAQ
article: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html#anchor-84a
I'm sorry but this isn't working. I've got the Entourage program, along with
Database, in a file called Microsoft Entourage 2001 in Macintosh HD on my
new computer and it still says it can't do it because a file called
'Microsoft Entourage 2001'can't be found.

This seems pretty basic Gil. There must be a million people a day going from
an old OS9 computer to OSX and Office X who want to do this?

It _is_ pretty basic, and tens of thousands of people have done it, Paul.
You say you have "the Entourage program, along with
Database, in a file called Microsoft Entourage 2001 in Macintosh HD on my
new computer". That sounds muddled. The application file called Microsoft
Entourage, if installed, needs to be in a folder called Microsoft Office
2001, along with the other apps (Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
PowerPoint) and a lot of supporting folders (Office, Templates, etc).
Normally that whole folder is in Applications (Mac OS 9), but it can be
anywhere. I'm not sure it's good enough to copy these folders and files over
from a previous computer, since there are a lot of other items involved in
an installation. In any case, the application file should be called
"Microsoft Entourage": if you ever renamed it to "Entourage 2001" rename it
back again: it should be called "Microsoft Entourage".

As Gil says, it's enough to have the CD inserted in the CD drive. So I'd
guess that "Microsoft Entourage" could be anywhere you want.

The Database file needs to be with its siblings the Messages, Database
Cache, Rules, Mailing Lists, Schedules files in your Identity folder (Main
Identity, or whatever you've renamed it to), normally in the Entourage 2001
Identities folder in the Microsoft User Data folder in a Documents folder. I
suppose that too could be somewhere else, but you _must_ have the whole
Identity folder intact or importing won't work. Most people bring over the
whole MUD folder, but the Entourage 2001 Identities folder should probably
be enough, I think.

That should do it ..... Many thanks!!
