Calendar Items - How to Restore in Entourage 2004

Lynn Q

Hi there,

I have lost all my calendar items that were in Entourage. Not sure if this
happened when I upgraded to Leopard (now on version 10.5.1).

Anyway, I have all my Entourage shared calendar items in iCal. Is there a
way to get these to show up again in Entourage?

Any help much appreciated. Thank you!

Enable sync services syncing in the Entourage 2004 prefs. It will sync
entoruage events with an iCal calendar called Entourage.
You can later copy all your iCal events in the new ENtourage iCal
calendar and they should all magically appear back in Entourage :)

Seems to me if you have the appropriate sync services checked under
Preferences in Entourage, the data should eventually flow from iCal to
Entourage, no?

I'd be careful with that. If Entourage thinks you deleted your calendar data
intentionally, it will eventually tell Sync Services to delete it from iCal
too.

It all depends on how this happened initially.

Entourage and iCal do not share all the data between them.
Entourage shares the default calendar to iCal and iCal only syncs the
"Entourage" calendar back to Entourage.

Hi again,

Well, it turned out that all my synchronisation settings are enabled;
however, not even my Entourage calendar in iCal will synchronise back to my
Entourage 2004 calendar.

Can you tell me if it's at all possible to get all the iCal items over to
Entourage? Can they be copied and how is this best accomplished?

I've enabled, disabled, re-enabled the sync settings and still no luck. I
even unpublished my iCal items to the internet, and still no change.

Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks once again.

Do you have a file on your computer called Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter in
either System/Library/Spotlight or ~/Library/Spotlight?

Sync Services was introduced with the 11.3.2 update. The mdimporter file
should have been installed with the 11.3.2 updater. Try running the 11.3.5
combo updater again or you can download the file here:

Hi again,

Well, it seems that my Entourage calendar from iCal has now successfully
re-appeared in the Entourage calendar. My other calendars apparently won't
appear in Entourage because this is the way it has to be. No problem.
Turned out that when I added a new user account on my Mac it was syncing to
my Mac account as well. Problem is that this account was removed.
Therefore, the .Mac syncing was at the root of the problem. Once I
unregistered the problem account and re-enabled the .Mac settings that I
wanted, the Entourage items from iCal now showed up in Entourage.

So. Is there a way to get the other calendars from iCal (like Work
schedule) over to Entourage's calendar?

In a separate post I have also asked if it's possible to sync the Entourage
calendar with my MSN Premium/Hotmail Paid account? Should permissions be
set? I've checked all over and I think I've set everything as it should be.
I know that Outlook 2003 used to sync to MSN. Does Entourage 2004 (11.3.6).
I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 here.

Thanks once again.

I'm glad it now works,

Unfortunately not (unless you copy the envetns in the Entoruage
calendar.

Entourage uses categories and multiple calendars but iCal doesn't know
categories and simply uses multiple calendars (That most people use for
categorizing events).
The MacBU made the choice to sync calendars to calendars and that's why
everything goes to the Entourage calendar in iCal.

I really wish they had given th option to sync the categories from
Entourage to corresponging calendars in iCal though :-\ (and you could
ask for it through the Send Feedback ling the the Entoruage Help menu)
In a separate post I have also asked if it's possible to sync the Entourage

I don't have any such account, so I really have no experience with that,
but if the account has a Hotmail calendar showing up in Entourage you
could. Make the hotmail account the deafult one and it should then be
the one used for syncing.
I have a similar situation with my Exchange account. I set it up as the
default to have it sync to iCal's Entourage calendar.

(Diane, SyncService don't use Spotlight..... it's a different question
;-) )
