Calendar Views

Is there a way to view only specific calendars (in calendar, not list
view) in the Entourage 2004 calendar, same way as in ical you can
uncheck certain calendars and have them not show up.

Thanks

Yes, use the category is filter at the top right of the calendar view.

Yes, use the category is filter at the top right of the calendar view.

That allows you to view just one category at a time, but not superimpose two
or three like you can do in iCal.

However, Entourage allows events (and all other items) to have multiple
categories, which is a much greater advantage than anything iCal offers. And
you can make use of it here, if you have a common need to see two or three
superimposed category-events.

First create a new category in Edit/Categories/Edit Categories, to represent
the combined set of categories you want. In the All Events custom view, sort
by Category. Shift-click top and bottom event of one of the
categories-events to select them all. Go to Edit/Categories/Assign
Categories (or press cmd-, (comma), or click in the Category column of one
of the selected events and select "Assign Categories" - DON'T actually
choose a category.) In the big Categories window that comes up check the
combined Category, but don't select it or click "Set Primary" at the bottom.
Click OK. Now all the events of the category you selected will have the
combined category as a secondary category. Do the same with events of your
other category to be combined. (And again if there's a third.)

Now filter on the combined category in the Calendar and you'll see them all.
In future, when assigning either (any) of the constituent categories to an
event, assign the combined one as well. The fast way to do this without
having to open up the big Categories window (although cmd-, is actually
pretty fast) is to assign the combined one first in the contextual menu,
THEN the individual category. When you do it this way, whichever category
you assign last assumes the Primary position with the color.

I have taken to using keyboard commands exclusively when assigning
categories now - it is so much quicker.

Whatever is selected in entourage (mail, contacts, events etc):

1. hit cmd-; (semicolon, not comma as Paul mis-typed)

2. Type the first couple of characters of the category name - the list of
categories will scroll to that entry

3. Hit the space bar to toggle on/off that category

4. If required, hit cmd-s to make that the primary category

5. Repeat steps 2/3 for additional categories

6. Hit enter to close the category assignment window.

Much, much quicker and more convenient than the mouse when assigning items
to more than one category.
