Calendar won't show new appointment

This has happened twice in the last couple of days on two different
computers - one a G3 iMac running Office X, and also on a G5 iMac,
running Office 2004.
I enter an appointment in the Calendar, do everything I normally do,
click on the red button and there is no new entry in Calendar. When I
quit Entourage, re-boot and open it again, there the appointment is
(sometimes several of them, because I tried a couple of times to enter
to data). The last time this happened, I had a Safari window open, and
after re-booting, I couln't get it to the front, Entourage refused to
go behind and stayed as the front window. After a couple of minutes,
clicking on each application, everything went back to normal.
I really don't want to have to re-boot every time I enter an event into
the Calendar, has anyone got any experience with this problem?
