Can An Entourage Calendar Event/Alarm Open An Application Like iCal Can?

Hello!

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply to this post!

I backup my MacBook using SyncupX to a LaCie external drive. SyncupX
can be 'awakened' by a daily iCal alert to do the backup. So I've done
just this, I've programmed a daily alert in iCal that directly opens
the SyncupX software, which performs the backup (e.g. this is not a
regular alert reminding me to do it, rather iCal 'talks' directly to
SyncupX and affects the backup.)

I am an Entourage user and would really rather use Entourage's calendar
to 'talk' directly to SyncupX as iCal can. However, I can not figure
out how to program a daily alert in Entourage to open an application
this way. Again, I don't want a calendar alert to remind me to
manually perform the backup sync, rather I want Entourage to talk
directly to the SyncupX software and do the backup.

Is this possible? If not, does anyone know of any hacks or plug-ins
that enable this functionality?

No. Entourage only does (alert) Reminders.
If not, does anyone know of any hacks or plug-ins
that enable this functionality?

1) iCal. You can sync from Entourage to iCal if you like, but synching via
SyncServices will not make Open File alarms or AppleScript alarms. You need
to make them in iCal.

2) Make cron jobs (a Unix feature). It's easy to open files (including
applications). Use the freeware Cronnix utility which makes it particularly
easy.
