can I do a spreadsheet to keep up with what a debtor owes?

I am owner financing a home to someone and was wondering if I could
create an excel spread sheet that would keep up with payments, interest
paid, principle paid, balance, etc....Could an excel worksheet
recognize when a payment is late and calculate the interest and
principle paid accordingly?

Yes, given the correct input. Google for Excel mortgage templates. If you
post specific stumbling blocks, you will get specific answers.

There's a Microsoft template for amortization and I have a few that
you can have (off newsgroup requests only!)

You'll also find that construction is covered in John Walkenbach's
Excel Formulas 2003.
