Can I do a Tick?

That's my question, really!
I don't know if other countries call it a tick, but I mean the mark that
teachers use to indicate you have done something well. It's the
opposite of a cross.
(I used to get a lot of crosses at school!)
I want to use it in a table to indicate that something is present. I
can use the multiplication sign for the cross, but can't find a tick
anywhere.
Any help will be appreciated, and sorry if I'm just being stupid.

Not quite sure what you mean (in the states teachers use minus, check, and
plus), but probably the Insert | Symbol dialog will let you find it.

Use the insert symbol tool and pick the 'tick' from the Wingdings font.

In the U.S., we call this a "check" mark (and we call the "cross" an X), but
we understand "tick" as well. Your best bet for both of these is to use
characters from the Wingdings font. Using Insert | Symbol, the last four
characters (except for the Windows symbol) are a cross (X) and tick (check)
alone and the same in a box. The Wingdings 2 font has even more selections.
