Can I hide sound icons in powerpiont 2000 sp3?

I am building an automated slide show and want to hide the sound icons for
the narration.

Just drag them into the gray space beside the slide. They will not be shown
in slide show view.

If by "automated," you mean with code, then you can set the .Visible of the
icons to False to hide them. If by "automated," you mean that it will run
by itself (and you're not mucking with code), just drag the icons off of
the viewable portion of the slide (that grayish area around the slide) and
the icons won't be visible in Slide Show View.
