Can I instlall Outlook 2003 over Office XP?

I want to start using Outlook 2003 but don't feel the need to upgrade other
components of already-installed Office XP

You can, but you will lose some functionality between Outlook and the other
office programs. For example, you can not do a mail merge between Outlook
2003 and Word 2002.
