Can I mark MobileMe messages as 'read' once Entourage has downloadedthem!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I like using Entourage for all my mail accounts but it is causing me all
sorts of confusion with MobileMe and my iPhone.

If I leave messages on MobileMe and read them in Entourage this 'read'
status is not reflected back to MobileMe when I sync.

This means on my iPhone I have no idea which messages I have read and which
I have not without opening them as they are all marked as unread.

It is getting to the point where I am seriously thinking of dropping
Entourage for my email!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers.

Brilliant.

That seems to work.

Now I just have the minor nightmare of getting rid of the Pop account from
my Entourage database while preserving 4 years of emails, contact and
calendars!!!!!!!!!!

Ummm

Does this mean I can get my Entourage Calendar to sync via IMAP as well?

That would be great but I cannot seem to see how this would work????

One last question (I HOPE).

Where are the messages stored, do they truly exist on my computer, so a
MobileMe outage that loses email would not cause me to lose anything or do
they actually only exist on MobileMe?

Hi Robin,

POP emails are stored on your computer, so even if you delete the POP
account from the Tools>Accounts list, the messages will remain on your
machine.

No, IMAP does not allow calendar synching. However, MobileMe/iCal uses
WebDAV to synch calendars across computers; since Entourage can access Sync
Services to synchronise its events and tasks with iCal, you can also use it
to synch your Entourage calendar. Keep in mind that there are several severe
limitations to this solution:

* Entourage only synchs to one iCal calendar ("Entourage"), so you can't use
different calendars for different purposes, e.g. Home, Work etc.

* Entourage does not synch categories. If you were to access your calendar
data through Entourage on a different computer, or if you were to overwrite
your Entourage data with the data stored on the MobileMe server, you would
not see any category information.

Does this mean I can get my Entourage Calendar to sync via IMAP as well?

That would be great but I cannot seem to see how this would work????

As described in my first answer, POP messages are stored on your computer.
You can verify this by looking at the folder list; are your messages
currently stored in the "On My Computer" section? If yes, then you won't
lose anything. If not, simply select your messages and drag them to any
folder that is located in the "On My Computer" section.

MobileMe outage that loses email would not cause me to lose anything or do
they actually only exist on MobileMe?

Hi

Yes I saw your earlier message thanks but my settings are no longer POP, but
IMAP and hence my question.

When I was configured for POP all messages where downloaded tot eh local
computer.

What is happening now I am configured for IMAP?

Are the messages still available (and backed up) locally on my computer or
ONLY on the MobileMe serer?

Hi Robin,
When I was configured for POP all messages where downloaded tot eh local
computer.

What is happening now I am configured for IMAP?

They are stored on the server, and Entourage creates a local cache in which
it stores all the messages to reflect the data on the server.
Are the messages still available (and backed up) locally on my computer or
ONLY on the MobileMe serer?

They are cached. In other words, they mirror the data on the server, so if a
message is on the server, it is also in Entourage. However, as soon as you
delete the message on the server, it will also disappear from Entourage the
next time it connects, which means that there are no permanent local copies.
However, you can simply drag messages from the IMAP inbox to a folder on
your computer to create a local copy that will be saved regardless of
whether the message is still on the server or not.
