I'm a long time Entourage user and have up 'till now abided its quirk
as it offers more than any other mail client available.
The quirk is incessant error reporting on checking mail. I'm sure other
clients silently soldier on, muffling the odd server error here and
there. I mean the annoying little Error Log dialog and it's cousin the
error icon that appears bottom right.
I have multiple IMAP acconts on different servers. In fact my moving to
a new host recently hasn't stopped the problem which I thought it
might. I'm convinced it's not the server. It's either Entourage's
failed communication with the server or usual server behaviour that
Entourage should cope with but chooses to report. I also have different
error messages for the one Hotmail account I look at using it.
I get messages like "Lost mailbox lock" and "The server reported an
error". I get them quite often, probably on average about ten or so
messages over a three hour period. I have a repeating schedule looking
at the IMAP boxes every 5 mins and Hotmail every hour.
Apart from diagnostic advice I was wondering if there was any way of
silencing the errors. Most of them are of little significance. Is there
a neat little script that will tell Entourage to just cope?
A little tech info: I'm running Entourage 2004 on OS X 10.3.9 on my
trusty and stable-as-a-rock G4 533 tower with 1Gb RAM. I'm connected
via DSL. My host is decent and no other mail app, while they're
generally rubbish, reports these errors. Entourage itself was very
recently reinstalled from scratch. Entourage X was just as bad at this.
Thanks so much in advance. Any advice or sympathy for the nagged will
be much appreciated.
