Can I stop Word documents from opening my IE?

We use a third party product to generate company
brochures in Internet Explorer 6. When the brochure is
complete, the output is a .doc file. I'm not sure why,
but the the generated brochure.doc opens in IE instead of
Word 2000. We want the brochure to open in Word for
refined editing without having to move/save/copy it out
of the browser window.

Thanks for any feedback.

It sounds as if this software may have re-routed the *.doc
extension. If you run Help/Detect and Repair does this
change?
