I created an OS-free Data volume on each hard drive long before I moved up
to Tiger. ALL documents, music, and photos reside there. The Microsoft
User Data Folder, as explained by Barry, is aliased from the Data volume to
the OS X boot volume's Documents folder.
The Microsoft Office 2004 applications folder was moved without aliasing to
an OS-free Applications volume. I did not move any of Apple's applications
but all non-Apple applications, with the exception of three or four
utilities reside.
I have experienced no problems whatsoever with this strategy. It took trial
and error to figure out that programs such as TechTool Pro 4.0.4 and Norton
AntiVirus 10 and anything that's installed in System Preferences or that
modifies the OS X system in any way has to be on the Tiger boot volume.
