Can no longer apply footnote style

H

Hope Hare

I am using Word 2002. I have to edit some very messy
documents and often find the best solution is to simply
clear all formatting and start afresh. BUT. Sometimes,
this strips out the footnote text style, and I can't
reapply it because in the 2002 version, the footnote text
style is no longer visible as a style, which it was in my
previous version. It is hidden, as is the caption style.
WHY, WHY? Is there a way of finding and reapplying the
sytle to the footnotes and captions that get creamed when
I clear all formatting?
My work-around is to create a look-alike style and apply
it, but this seems redundant.
Thanks for any help!

Hi Hope,

In the Word 2002 'Show Formatting Taskpane (View=>Taskpane)
change the 'Show;' box at the bottom to either custom and
put a checkmark next to the 'Footnote' built in style.

You can also add back the old style Word Style command to
a menu by using Tools=>Customize=>Commands,
From there select the 'All Commands' category, scroll the
Commands down to 'FormatStyle' and drag that command to your
Format menu (you can then change the property of the 'Style...'
command that will be listed to 'Default style' by right clicking
on the command in the Format menu while still in Customize mode,
to have the familiar Styles icon appear there as well.
