Can Palm communicate w/ Entourage for Mac?

T

Tim Harrington

Maybe a dumb question, but is there a way to sync my Palm calendar w/
Entourage's calendar?

Any help would be helpful. Even if its a "no".

Thanks,

Tim

The smple answer is yes. First install Palm Dektop and the Hotsync
Conduit for Macintiosh, then install the Entourage Conduit, then sync
you handheld with Entourage.

If you don't want to use the Palm software (desktop and hot sync), you could
use Missing Sync instead (http://www.markspace.com/). You still need the
Office X or Office 2004 Entourage Sync conduit, too. I much prefer Missing
Sync to the Palm software.

Thanks Alan and Karl,

I finally had the time to go through it all and it works great.

Thanks again to you both,

Alan,
You much prefer Missing Sync to the Palm software. Would you be willing
to elaborate on that? I've been using the Palm software, and I've
certainly had some unpleasant surprises.
Thanks.

Basically, I think that the Missing Sync conduit works smoother that the
Palm software, is more reliable and does not require the use or installation
of Palm Desktop software. However, be aware that if you are syncing with
Entourage, you still need to use the MS Entourage Conduit which, frankly,
stinks in its support of Palm data fields. Oh, well :)

Question: if you *are* going to use the Palm Desktop on your Mac (as
opposed to Entourage), what would the advantages be to using Missing
Sync? More reliable data transfers during hotsync?

Thanks for any advice you can give -- I'm moving from Windows to the
Mac. I use Palm Desktop under Windows, and had planned to do the same
for the Mac.

You might want to check the Palm website and other users of the Palm Desktop
software. I am not sure of the level of support for that software but I
think it does not support all the fields of the more recent Palm OS
releases. Other than that, I think the Missing Sync software is more
reliable than the Palm software during syncing operation, but that my just
be my opinion/feeling. You might also go to the Missing Sync website (
http://www.markspace.com/) for more insights as to its strengths/weaknesses.

You do not really need MarkSpace Missing Sync.

Just have the Latest Palm Desktop, and install the Entourage Conduit that is
available from Microsoft.

Then you are set to go. It will only sync the address, memo, calendar and to
do list. If you want to sync emails, let me know, and I will help you with
that.

Cheers!

I never said you "needed' Missing Sync, only that IMHO it was better that
the Palm HotSync Manager.

Thanks Alan. From what I've read, those using the Palm Desktop for
the Mac as their primary PDA tool find the standard hotsync pretty
effective. However, there are reports of duplicate appointments being
made under certain conditions -- a problem which Missing Sync
apparently doesn't have.

But I'm not sure if those bug reports are out-of-date or not --
particularly as Palm just released an updated version of the Mac Palm
Desktop for Tiger.

I figure I'll try the Palm sync for a while, and move to Missing Sync
if the standard syncing has glitches or is too clumsy.
